Background
The Date is September 17th, 1944 and the largest Airborne Operation in history has just commenced. The 82nd Airborne, spearheaded by the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) and the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment (GIR), has just landed on the outskirts of Groesbeek in the Netherlands. Their mission: Gain control of the Groesbeek heights and secure the bridges in their sector to enable British XXX Corps to pass through on their way to Arnhem. The initial drop has been a success and the 508th is preparing to move out and secure their objectives.
The German defenders have been caught off guard, but they are not unprepared. As the American's move out to secure their objectives Elements of the II Panzer Division, Including the 9th and 10th SS, The II Fallschirm-korps, and 15th Army scramble to mount a counterattack isolate and destroy the Allied attack. They are approaching from Reichswald and Wyler, moving west towards Groesbeek; threatening to over-run the drop zones needed for glider reinforcements and dislodge the 82nd Airborne. What will ensue is an intense 24 hour struggle over what would become known as Hell's Highway.
